School Is Back, Summer Keeps Going: Three Late-August Weekends

Updated: 2 days ago

School is back. Summer fun continues. That's one of the things we love about late August on the Central Coast.
The pace changes, but there is still plenty happening, and you can fill a weekend with completely different experiences without going far. Three worth putting on your calendar.

AUGUST 29–30 · AVILA VALLEY
Apple & Sunflower Jubilee at Avila Valley Barn
Apple picking, sunflower fields, tractor rides, a hay maze, pony rides, live music, fresh-pressed cider and the Barn's famous bakery. A very Avila Valley way to spend a Saturday or Sunday.
AUGUST 29–30 · GROVER BEACH
Stone Soup Music Festival
A local tradition for more than 30 years. Two stages of live music, food, crafts and vendors at the newly renovated Ramona Garden Park. Saturday night brings a Madonna dance party with Blonde Ambition. Admission is free.
AUGUST 29 · SHELL BEACH
Shell Beach Food & Wine
An oceanfront afternoon at Dolphin Bay featuring Central Coast wines, unlimited tastings, bites from local chefs and live music. Wineries range from Edna Valley to Santa Maria and Santa Ynez, with chefs from some of the area's best-known restaurants.
Three very different ways to spend the same weekend, all within a short drive of home.
This is the Central Coast lifestyle we think people sometimes underestimate. The beaches are only part of it. It's the farm fields, local traditions, wine country, great food and unexpected weekends like this one.
